NOVA SHRM PHR-SPHR Study Group Information

PHR-SPHR Study Group:  Our NOVA SHRM PHR-SPHR Study Group helps HR professionals prepare for the certification test for PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources).  For Detailed Information on all HRCI Certifications see www.hrci.org.

Note: At this time, the study group does not cover GPHR (Global Professional in Human Resources).  Individual GPHR study materials are available through SHRM - See www.shrm.org/learning/global.

Schedule for NOVA SHRM PHR-SPHR Study Group:  We schedule two study groups per year.   The spring group prepares for May/June testing.  The fall group prepares for December/January testing.  Once scheduled, an email is sent to all members as well as posted on the NOVA SHRM website advertising the dates of the upcoming session.

Cost of the Study Group:  The total you pay to attend the Spring or Fall study session will be $510 for members and $610 for non-NOVA SHRM-members.  The cost includes all the study materials (the new SHRM Learning System).

Drop-In Study Group Experience Only:  We also have a Study Group Only option which costs $150 for those that would like to join the study group experience but this option does not include the SHRM Learning System.  This is a great way to brush up on certain modules or topics if you had already purchased other study materials or just need a refresher.  This option allows you to drop in any one class or attend all learning sessions.  The option is only available once a minimum of 6 people have signed up for the class; thus, if this option doesn’t appear on the website then the minimum has not been reached.

Study Materials:  Our group uses study materials created by SHRM and included in overall price.  The new SHRM Learning System features up-to-date study materials and the latest technology, including SmartStudy tools, learning modules in print or e-reader formats and extensive multi-media online resources accessible via mobile devices. Thousands of HR professionals have used the SHRM Learning System to earn their certification.  View the SHRM website for additional information about the Learning System.

Study Group Logistics:  The study group meets weekly in the evening for about 7-8 weeks either near the Reston Area or the McLean area.  Reading assignments and test questions are assigned prior to each session.  The group reviews tests, clarifies questions and explains some concepts in more detail.  In addition, study group members often decide whether they would like to conduct other study activities to help prepare for the exam.   We encourage members to self-organize!

Are You Ready?  The PHR and SPHR exams are difficult.  In order to pass, it will take dedicated study over the course of the study group.  Consider your availability for the study commitment when you decide when to schedule your exam.

Contact Person:  The VP of Education, Tiffany Estes, organizes the study groups.  Please contact her via e-mail at NovaShrmEDU@gmail.com or 703-662-3385.
