About the Program:
Organizations frequently spend vast resources to ensure that their workforce is diverse. This presentation combines research results, humor, and storytelling to explore what happens when people from different cultural backgrounds work together in a workplace that has its own very distinct culture. The workshop helps understand the values and expectations in the American workplace culture versus those of the cultures represented by diverse ethnic and racial minorities. After identifying common areas as well as areas of conflict and their consequences, the workshop presents ways of bridging the gap and making for a more productive and embracing workplace.
By the end of this presentation, a participant will be able to:
o Understand the values and expectations in the American workplace culture.
o Identify the tension between the overall workplace culture and the cultures and values represented by diverse ethnic and racial minorities.
o Understand how culturally-diverse frameworks, values, and behaviors can both clash with and influence the workplace culture and relationships.
